LOCATION: HARDIN LAKE, WI
STATUS: COMPLETED 2010
CONCEPT: This lake cottage was conceived of as a classic Northwoods resort, a main lodge housing public functions with multiple remote lodges for family and guests connected by porches and corridors, lining a ridge with southern exposure and views. As such, systems were designed to separate and idle portions of the complex dependent upon how many would be visiting.
A high performance building, with super insulated walls and roof planes, low volumes and ready cross ventilation enables a geo-thermal heating and cooling system to manage the northern climate requirements. Narrow spaces strung along a backbone corridor allow ample natural daylight and maximizes the southern view over the lake for the individual lodges.
Both in the arrangement of building volumes, and ready access to the multiple porches, decks and the motor court, the complex supports and encourages the residents’ love of and engagement with the outdoors.
