BYWATER STUDIO

LOCATION: FOX POINT, WI

STATUS: COMPLETED 2016

CONCEPT: Constrained by low wet drainage land on the north, and an acute angled setback shape on the south, a new studio building was planned for this house designed by one of FLW’s structural engineers.

RJA proposed packing the building tight to setbacks into the southern corner of the lot, maximizing the critical mass of built environment and creating space between the residence and studio, rather than locating an outbuilding in the rear and disengaged.  A simple and spare material palette was developed, with siding to match the profile of that on the existing building, while large window banks punctuate the facade.  A glazed overhead door was installed for management of larger art work, and clerestory panels ring the perimeter washing the ceiling plane with a diffused light.
